Middle Market Opportunity
Our investment strategy focuses on middle market lending which is an underserved market. We find the middle market an attractive opportunity for the following reasons:
Large Target Market
We believe middle market companies represent a significant growth segment of the U.S. economy and often require substantial capital investments to grow.
Robust Demand for Debt Capital
We believe that private equity firms have significant, but uncalled capital, a large portion of which is still available in the U.S. We expect a large amount of unfunded buyout commitments will drive demand for leveraged buyouts over the next several years, which should, in turn, create direct lending opportunities for us.
Specialized Lending Requirements with High Barriers to Entry
We believe that the high barriers to entry that a new middle market lender must overcome give existing middle market lenders a natural exclusivity that increases the potential value of each loan. Middle market lending transactions are typically more labor intensive because of the smaller size of each investment and the fragmented nature of information for such companies.
These transactions require due diligence and underwriting practices consistent with the demands and economic limitations of the middle market. They may also require more extensive ongoing monitoring, and, as a result, historically have been served by a limited segment of the lending community.
